Sani Pass Day Tour
Private Tour from Durban
The Sani Pass Day Tour goes up a gravel winding pass that is higher and steeper and much tougher than any of its Southern African competitors and offers the most exceptional views in the country. As the altitude increases, the road becomes narrower and more treacherous. All signs of human habitation disappear and you come face to face with the vast, desolate beauty of the Drakensberg Mountains.
As you are not driving have a beer at the highest pub in Africa as you summit at 2874 metres above sea level! Coming back down is as thrilling, if not more, don’t close your eyes as you’ll miss these incredible vistas.

Yes. However according to the engineers involved this will only be in about 5 years.
There are a few road works but this is long before the South African border post.
Can I drive on my own?
Some do attempt to do this but unless you are very experienced it is not advisable. Inclement weather conditions are dangerous if you do not know the road and can happen at any time even if it looks good in the morning.
You will not get to see Basotho culture as this is only provided through a guided tour and your views will be restricted if you do not have the freedom to watch as you pass.
You can however ‘Hire a Guide’ provided you have the correct vehicle the guide will accompany you in your vehicle to ensure that you get to the top and will take you to the village for the activities at a small cost.
Rental vehicles are not suggested as rental companies will charge for damage in the area even with full cover insurance.
You can also hire a ‘Buddy Tour’ which means you follow one of our existing tours in your own vehicle. This is not suggested for those without experience.
